Carl Sjulin began his career at West Gate Bank in 1983 as a teller while a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After college, Carl received a Rotary International scholarship to the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia where he received his MBA. He went on to Nebraska Law School and worked in Washington, DC on the House Banking Committee and practiced law with Rembolt Ludtke law firm. In 2002, Carl followed in his father Paul’s footsteps and became President of West Gate Bank.
Carl has served on many charitable and non-profit boards including Madonna Hospital, Lincoln Children's Museum, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools, Lincoln Community Foundation and Community Development Resources, a CDFI focused on affordable housing.
Carl is proud to have accepted several awards on behalf of the bank including LIBA Business of the Year, BBB Integrity Award, and the Federal Home Loan Bank Community Leader Award.
Carl and his wife, Renee, have two children. Their daughter, Megan, works at the Runza corporate office and has a young daughter who occupies much of Carl’s free time. Their son, CJ, is a CPA and attorney in Los Angeles and serves on the West Gate Bank Board of Directors.
The Sjulin family is excited to carry the ownership of the bank into the third generation (and fourth if you include our youngest shareholder!).
